Questions people ask

The basics

What is Events?

A calendar for the things you're going to: concerts, games, openings. When you find one, you share it with the people you'd want there, and they tell you if they're coming.

Do my friends need the app?

No. Anyone without it gets a text with the event, its link, and a way to say if they're coming. If they get the app later, everything you've shared with them is already on their calendar.

What kind of events is it for?

Things that happen whether or not anyone joins you: a concert, a game, an opening, a market. For planning dinner with two friends, a group text still works best.

How is it different from a group chat?

A group chat only reaches the people in that chat. On Events, each friend gets the event on their own calendar and can pass it on to their own people, and nothing gets buried under the conversation.

Does it work on my phone?

Events is an app for iPhone and Android.

Sharing

Who can see what I share?

Only the people you share it with. Nothing is posted, and there are no public profiles.

Can I pass on something a friend shared with me?

Yes. Open it and share it with your own people. Their answers come back to you, not to the friend who sent it.

How do I know who's coming?

Every event you share lists who you sent it to and who's said they're coming. Only you see those answers.

Do I have to answer?

No. The event happens either way, and nobody is waiting on you.

Can I take a share back?

No. A share is like a text: once it's sent, it's theirs. Removing an event from your calendar never touches anyone else's.

Why can I only add 50 people?

It keeps your list to people you'd actually want there, so Events stays about friends, not an audience. Anyone you haven't shared with in six months quietly drops off, and you can add them back anytime.

Your calendar

What if the details change?

When the person who shared it with you changes the time or place, your copy updates quietly. If you've edited your copy yourself, it stays the way you left it.

Will it bug me with notifications?

Only when a person shares something with you or answers something you shared. You can turn off notifications and texts separately in Settings.

What if I don't want someone's events?

Hide them from any event they've shared with you. Their events stop showing up, they're never told, and you can unhide them in Settings. If you get Events by text instead, replying STOP stops all Events texts.

Can I get rid of something a friend shared?

Archive it. It leaves your calendar, and you can bring it back from Archived anytime.

Can I put events in my other calendar?

Yes. Every event has Add to calendar, for Google, Apple, and Outlook. It's a one-time copy, so later changes won't follow it there.

Your account

What do you do with my phone number?

It's how you sign in and how your friends' shares reach you. We never sell it and never send marketing texts; the privacy policy has the details.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, open People, then Settings, then Delete account. Your data goes with it, and events you've already shared stay on your friends' calendars.

How do I get Events?

It's in closed beta. Sign up for the beta and your invite comes to you automatically.
